Atavism is about defining our Essence Selves. It is about honoring the past and future in the now. Atavism is a way of connecting the dots of our ancestral lines to the embodied ancestors that we are right now. We are the continuation of a narrative that is ongoing, micro to macro.
In my journey here on Earth, I have always heard a call to be creative. To become a conscious creator, set on constructing a living body of work that can convey my message, a timeless & limitless message... I was not always aware that I had a message to share. For the earlier parts of my life I struggled with feeling that my message was not wanted, and though I on and off engaged with art and music I was convinced that it wouldn’t be understood or valued the ways in which I understood. I recall struggling to fit in with the crowd and be like everyone else. It wasn’t until creativity sparked again in my 20’s that clarity arrived to show me the way.
Shanti and I are working to create through what we understand our ancestral heritage to be. We are rhythmic vibrations of the Earth - Citizens of the Universe!!
I am of African, Indigenous (American), and European descent. I am most influenced by the African American cultures here in the US. I am engaged with acoustic (Traditional African Instruments, handpan, and more!) and analog/electronic vibrational sound generation (techno, ambient, experimental). Shanti is of Alaskan Native & Russian descent (along with English, Maltese, German, Native American… a melting pot of Hue-man Being) ... Guidance & Intuition has led her to explore her Eskimo/Chukchi roots through functional art, alchemical herbal medicine-making, and vibrational medicine offered through the Shamanistic* tambourine/drum & the Khomus (aka jaw harp) of Northeastern Siberia/Russian Federation.
In my creative experience, I am learning that everything is interconnected. My musical expression is an audible language that expresses similar points that are found in my painting practice; identity, texture, and pattern... The painting practice has a connection to my therapy practice with crystals (atomic elements of the Earth that vibrate), and so the language of vibration is born through my creative process!
All the layers coalesce and form a dynamic way of sharing a message. I believe that we all have a message, a transmission to share, and now is the time to do so.
This is what Atavism is…… A continual morphing of our creativity, tethering cords backwards and forwards through the radial time matrix to the now. Atavism is a way of creating that allows us to deepen our connection with our ancestors, with the Earth, and cosmos as a whole… After all, we are star seeded Beings!
In some ways, through many incarnations, I believe we learn to shape-shift, to express what is needed in the moment and to embody versions of ourselves that seem to be most conducive to our life. We choose to carry what means the most to us, art, and recall what is necessary to continue our journey back home.
Remember the Future ~ We exist now as sums of our genetic soul expression, in short WE are our own ancestors!
